Chaplin is an Israeli restaurant in Century City Mall, Poblacion, Makati. This restaurant is inspired by the iconic Charlie Chaplin. As per the owner, they wanted to have that same feel that Chaplin gives to the people – happy, relaxed and positive.
The ambiance is cozy and I liked that it is well lit. There’s frames with quotes and funny jokes hanged in its walls that will surely put a smile on your face.
Here are the dishes that we tried:
Hummus (Php420) – Israeli Flag Dish served with fried chili, cooked chicken peas, virgin olive oil and laffa bread
Well, it’s not Israeli restaurant if they do not have some Hummus. This is creamy and really delicious. Probably the best there is that I’ve tried here in Makati.
Hot Eggplant Salad (Ph195) – Baba Ganoush with burned eggplant, tahini, fresh lemon, parsley, cilantro, almonds & toasted bread.
Deep Fried Cauliflower (Php325) – 200 grams deep fried cauliflower drizzled with honey vinaigrette, chili flakes and tahini
This dish is perfect appetizer. I love deep-fried Cauliflower as this version always excites me. This is the second time I tasted one. Chaplin’s version is a bit sweet. The texture is crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside.
Chicken Shishlik (Php485) – Israeli version of Chicken-Rice. 200 grams skewer grilled chicken thigh marinated with Israeli spice mixture served with majadra, grilled cherry tomatoes & tahini
This is our comfort food. Who doesn’t want Grilled Chicken, right? This is very common to us, Filipinos. This skewer is tender and flavorsome too.
Lamb Kebab (Php560) – 200 grams grilled imported beef kebab made with lamb shoulder, cilantro, parsley & fresh mint served with majadra rice & grilled cherry tomatoes
The lamb was savory and delicious but I find it a bit dry. The sauce on the side would help add more balance.
There are also available food menu for breakfast. It’s good to know that they’re already open as early as 7AM and closes as 1AM.
Lamb Boureka (Php530) – Puff pastry stuffed with spinach & 200 grams ground beef mixed with lamb fat, fresh mint, parsley & cilantro served with amba & tahini
This is probably good for 2 persons. The pastry was flaky and the lamb was tasty, too. The sauces on the sides added more flavors to this dish. I also appreciated that there’s salad on the side.
Pizza Boureka (Php425) – Puff pastry filled with Pomodoro sauce, mozzarella and feta cheese
I would probably order this again when I go back. Another flaky pastry loaded with cheese!
Bagel Toast (Php400) – Israeli Panini with pesto pizza sauce, cream cheese, mozzarella, feta, corn, onion & thousand island sauce.
This was what’s memorable and what stood out to me the most, probably because of the corn inside it. I remember how crispy the Panini is and the flavors inside just burst in your mouth. It was really good.
Lava Cake (Php260)
Yogurt – (Php195) – Home-made Greek yogurt with blueberry syrup & granola.
Pair all your dishes with these wonderful drinks. There’s a lot to choose from whether you are in with hot, iced or even alcohol.
Sabrina (Php175)
Chaplin Tea (Php175) – honey, ginger, orange slice, cinnamon stick
Hot Chocolate (Php195) – with whipped cream, marshmallows, and rich chocolate syrup
Mojito Tel-Aviv (Php350)
We really had a great time here in Chaplin. This is highly recommended if you’re in the area and wanted to have authentic Israeli food. By the way, I really enjoyed the Mojito, The frothy cream on top tasted sweet but at the bottom, it has the right alcohol in it that will make you
